What Is Sports Law?
A resident of Yonkers, NY, Michael (Mike) Paulercio recently completed an associate’s degree in physical education. The following semester, Mike Paulercio enrolled in Manhattanville College in Harrison, New York, where he is working toward a bachelor’s degree in sport studies. Manhattanville College also offers a course in sports law.
A legal area that covers topics of concern for athletes and sports organizations, sports law may involve several other areas of law, including contracts, labor, and discrimination. Though several law schools offer sports law concentrations, many sports lawyers have general law degrees backed by experience at firms that specialize in sports cases.
Sports lawyers may handle cases that arise between owners, players, the government, and the general public. For example, the option for Major League Baseball players to become free agents after the conclusion of a contract was obtained after years of arbitration involving sports lawyers and team owners.

In addition, daily gym classes are required for kindergarteners and children in first, second, and third grades. Further, high school students must earn at least a 2.0 in physical education to obtain a diploma.
Except in cases of medical necessity, students are not permitted to waive their participation in physical education. However, student athletes who can demonstrate proficiency in their sport may be eligible for exemptions.
